Numark has been a forerunner in the DJ industry for years now, refining and improving various devices like mixers, vinyl decks and amplifiers. However, Numark’s venture into DJ Software has produced mixed results.
CUE boasts some excellent features, a user-friendly dual-deck interface and intuitive track importing and categorizing tools, but unfortunately, CUE does not live up to the reputation of its Numark namesake.
CUE is designed to be compatible with any Numark MIDI or external controller device, greatly expanding its potential function. Improvements have been made since the previous version in track and playlist categorization, with an emphasis placed on playlist and playlist history management. Best of all, new “smart” filter folders can instantly categorize tracks based on different criteria such as year, genre, location and more.
CUE can import a variety of audio file formats, including MP3, WAV and others. CUE is also compatible with external controllers and other MIDI devices.
CUE can publish sets to CD or MP3, as well as broadcast recorded sets online.
Despite coming from a tried and true company like Numark, CUE offers very little in performance, delivering only mediocre results. Many users will appreciate its compatibility with controls and MIDI devices, but even this increased functionality doesn’t necessarily improve its standing.
Numark hosts a FAQ site and user forum, while providing tutorial documents and downloads. Further assistance can be obtained via email.
Numark’s CUE never quite rises above mediocrity, making improvements in track listing and categorizing, but never to its lackluster design. While the features and tools are simple enough for easy use, their quality and performance is lacking.
